Bach Chorale to provide eclectic program of Music for Great Cathedrals By RON GREIDANUS Georgetown Bach Chorale Georgetown Bach Chorale presents Music for Great Cathedrals when it returns to one of its favourite performing locations, the Croatian Centre, 9118 Winston Churchill Blvd., Norval. Conducted by Ron Greidanus, the Chorale will offer a primarily unaccompanied choral music concert on Saturday, March 24 at 8 p.m. The evening begins with a Concert for Choir by Sergei Rachmaninoff, sung in Russian. This is a stunning work that was published following the great composer's death and displays the marvellous richness of the Russian choral traditions. The Chaconne for solo violin and six singers by J.S. Bach was originally composed for solo violin and is considered by many to be his greatest work for any solo instrument, not only for its tremendous technical demands, but for the imagination Bach uses in terms of how he develops this simple but dramatic ground base. Violinist extraordinaire Chris Verrette has just returned from a tour with Canada's internationally acclaimed Baroque Chamber Orchestra Tafelmusik and will join the Chorale in this rarely performed rendition of a monumental work. In the second half of the performance, the Chorale will delve into the sublime, rich, sonorous Marrion Motets of Anton Bruckner, grand, symphonic, organiclike in nature, accustomed to being per- 13 ·The IFP· Halton Hills, Tuesday, March 20, 2012 Pianist and Bach Chorale music director Ron Greidanus Left of Centre Photography photo formed in such stately surroundings. Zoltan Kodaly, who was known for his tremendous brilliance as a pianist, wrote some marvellous and introspective choral music during the monastic phase of his life. The clearly speaking person produces words that are more precisely formed, or articulated. The rate of speed of words spoken also affects our ability to understand. If one can hear the speaker as he/she is talking, this makes it easier to understand. The environment also has an affect on speech understanding -- bare walls and floors in a room causes sound to "bounce" around. Keep in mind that it is much easier to converse in a quiet, carpeted room. Make sure that there is good lighting and try to maintain a speaking distance of less than nine feet. You'll be pleasantly surprised at how much easier conversation is. Hearing loss can dampen enjoyment of movies, music, church services, watching TV, eating out and talking on the telephone. Even a mild hearing loss can reduce your quality of life. TOOTH CHATTER - georgetowndentureclinic.ca Call me Call me today today for an for an appointment! appointment! I passed around the corner, and someone saw my grin; when he smiled, I realized I had passed it on to him. I thought about that smile, then I realized its worth; a single smile, just like mine could travel round the earth. So, if you feel a smile begin, don't leave it undetected, let it start an epidemic quick, and get the world infected! SMILE a while! Give your frown a rest! A SMILE costs nothing, but gives much. It enriches those who receive, without making poorer those who give. It takes but a moment, but the memory lasts forever. None is so rich or mighty that he can get along without it, and no one is so poor but that he can't be made rich by it. If your smile needs a turn up, give us a call today!!
