The campaign is designed to promote the challenge of seniors' hunger and the role Meals on Wheels plays in our community to address this challenge. Begun as an annual event in the United States to increase public awareness, recruit new volunteers and increase funding for Meals on Wheels organizations, the program extended to Ontario in 2009 and events will be held across Canada again this year. Mayors from around the country will be asked to help deliver meals with their local Senior Nutrition Program to seniors in their community. "Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette will be helping our volunteers to deliver meals in Acton today in support of this event. We thank him for giving his time to this worthwhile program," said Brenda Peddie, Meals Program Co-ordinator. Meals on Wheels provides a hot lunch to seniors and disable adults who are unable to prepare meals for themselves. The meals assist in the provision of adequate nutrition, which also helps the client live in their own home a little longer. This contact can also provide a check for the clients' well being. The meals are delivered right to the door by wonderful volunteers, who provide a friendly face and a smile to brighten up the day! There are several meal options available; hot, frozen and sandwich meals. For more information please call Brenda in Georgetown at 905-873-6502 or Janet in Acton at 519-853-3310. 15 ·The IFP· Halton Hills, Tuesday, March 20, 2012 11998 WINSTON CHURCHILL BOULEVARD 2kms north of Mayfield Road / River Drive Georgetown New Ready to Finish Handcrafted Furniture Armoire, wardrobes, dressers, night tables, blanket box, dressing vanity, hall tree, hutch and buffet, wine table, coffee and end tables, bookcases, pantry, jelly cabinets, plant stands, sofa tables, flat panel component stand, deacon benches, harvest tale, desks, corner cabinets, mirrors, magazine tables, magazine racks and much, much more. Both campaigns are seeking campaign volunteers for canvassing and/or selling daffodils. CAShh (Cancer Assistance Services of Halton Hills) raises money to provide direct support to cancer victims in the community. Canvassers are wanted to go door-to-door in their neighbourhoods to ask for the essential donations to keep this vital service open. If you can help contact CAShh campaign manager Betty Fendley, at the CAShh office, 905-702-8886 or go to www. cancerassistance.org. *** The Canadian Cancer Society raises funds for vital research and support to patients. The Acton branch of the Canadian Cancer Society is also looking for volunteers for its Spring campaign. It kicks off the campaign with an information night on Wednesday, March 28 with special speaker, Nelson Ho, University of Guelph researcher. All volunteers and general public are invited, 7 p.m. at Knox Church, in Acton. Daffodil sales begin March 29 at Sobeys, and a Step into Spring Fashion Show will be on April 16. To help out call campaign coordinator Cathy Gerrow, 519-853-1424. *** The Canadian Cancer Society representing Georgetown still urgently needs volunteers to sell daffodil pins at various locations across Georgetown over two weekends, March 31-April 1 and April 14-15.
