4 ·The IFP· Halton Hills ·Tuesday, March 20, 2012 School to begin Sept. 4 Next school year calendar approved by HDSB trustees Halton District School Board of Education trustees recently approved the school year calendar for 20122013. Final approval of the calendar by the Ministry of Education is anticipated later in spring 2012. The calendar is posted on the Board's website at www.hdsb.ca. The school year calendar is developed with input from the School Year Calendar Committee consisting of representatives from interested and affected groups, including parents. The first day of school for the 2012-2013 school year will be Tuesday, September 4, 2012. Kindergarten calendars will be available in late May. School boards may designate up to six professional activity days for elementary and secondary schools. For the 2012-2013 school year calendar five (5) of the six (6) Professional Activity Days are aligned with the Halton Catholic District School Board to minimize additional charges as a result of the shared school bus transportation service. The Professional Activity Days have been scheduled for both elementary and secondary schools on October 5, 2012, November 23, 2012, February 1, 2013, April 26, 2013 and June 28, 2013. Elementary and secondary schools will have separate PA days on the following days-- February 15, 2013 will be a PA day for secondary schools only and June 7, 2013 will be a PA day for elementary schools only. The Winter Break will run from December 24, 2012 to January 4, 2013 (inclusive) with students returning to class on Monday, January 7, 2013. The Spring Break for the 2012-2013 school year will be held from March 11-15, 2013 (inclusive). The last instructional day for both elementary and secondary students will be Thursday, June 27, 2013. High school examinations for the first semester will be scheduled from January 24-30, 2013 (inclusive). Second semester exams will be slated from June 20-26, 2013 (inclusive) with Semester two classes beginning on Monday, February 4, 2013.
