In 2012, with the growing support of numerous local businesses, schools, residents, and Town and Halton Hills Hydro staff, during Earth Hour, energy consumption dropped by nearly 4% (3.9%) or 2.07MW. This is enough electricity to power approximately 1,700 homes for an hour. The 3.9% savings for Earth Hour 2012 is a significant increase over the 2011 reduction of approximately 0.9%. Overall, since first participating in Earth Hour in 2008, the community has saved enough electricity to power a total of about 17,200 average homes for one hour. Throughout Halton Hills, participants included businesses within the Acton and Georgetown BIAs and those located throughout the Town, TransCanada Energy, schools of the Halton District School Board and the Halton Catholic District School Board (including Robert Little Public School, Park Public School, and Christ the King Secondary School which held special activities to celebrate Earth Hour), and the hundreds of residents, businesses, students and Town staff who signed an Earth Hour `Pledge' which travelled throughout the Town prior to Earth Hour.
