The 12-yearold Carvello, who began skiing at age five, was the Milton Heights' K1 Boys' Champion for 2012, as well as earning the Top Boys' Point Scorer Award and the K1 Boys' Panthers Team trophy for the club. He plans to attend a ski race camp this June in Whistler, B.C. Submitted photo Rebels ousted from midget AAA championships The Mississauga Rebels were eliminated from the AllOntario Central Region midget AAA championships after losing back-to-back games to the London Jr. Knights over the weekend in Sault Ste. Marie. The Rebels had dropped a 4-0 decision to the Knights Friday, and met them again Saturday in the first semi-final, which they lost in heartbreaking fashion. Up 2-1 after 40 minutes, the Rebels allowed the Knights to tie it up and send the game to overtime before London scored to advance to the final, where they were edged 4-3 by the Sudbury Wolves. Georgetown's Zach Fung finished up tied for second in tournament scoring with four goals and eight assists in six games. Brett Pierce of Georgetown and Michael Courvoisier of Acton were also members of the Rebels. Georgetown's Cameron a real Trail Blazer Georgetown's Mackenzie Cameron brought back multiple medals from a couple of recent provincial cross-country ski competitions. The 14-year-old won the senior girls' division at the Ontario elementary school championships at the Hardwood Hills Nordic Centre near Orillia, covering the 3.5km course in a time of 13.08.8, just 0.3 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Cameron also represented the Highlands Trailblazers' team from Highlands Nordic in Duntroon at the Ontario Midget Cross-Country Ski championships, competing in three events at the two-day meet. In the first race, a 3-km skate, Cameron finished 6th in the midget girls' division. The Grade 8 St. Catherine of Alexandria student anchored the Trailblazers' three-person sprint relay team that placed first and in the final race of the weekend, the 4-km classic event, Cameron was 3rd. She topped off the weekend with the skate technique award for the midget girls. Submitted photo Trio medal in Montreal Three gymnasts from Georgetown came away with medals as representatives from Canada at the International Gymnix 2012 competition recently held in Montreal that drew competitors from as far away as Europe. Gabriella Douglas (in centre of photo) owned the balance beam at the meet, earning the gold medal in the International Challenge category. Kaitlyn Hofman (right), who like Douglas is a 15-yearold Christ the King student, picked up silver medals on the vault, uneven bars and the all-around division in the Senior Cup division. Casey Carvalho (left), a 14-year-old Georgetown District High School student, made a trip to the podium to collect a bronze medal in the all-around standings, which included a third on the balance beam. All three gymnasts train together six days a week at Futures Gymnastics in Mississauga. Hofland is slated to compete at an event in Brazil, while Carvalho and Douglas are preparing for the provincial championships at the end of April.
