RMC is a voluntary, industry-led program devoted to keeping waste refrigerant from entering the environment. When cooling systems are repaired or replaced, there is an immediate need to dispose of the refrigerant in a safe manner to ensure the Ozone Depleng Substances (ODS) do not escape into the atmosphere. Once a cerfied HVACR contractor removes the refrigerant from the appliance, it is taken to an authorized wholesaler who tracks and stores it unl an appropriate volume is reached. RMC then collects the refrigerant and destroys it in an environmentally-friendly way, keeping it from being vented into the atmosphere and potenally damaging the ozone layer. Celebrang over ten years of protecng the Canadian environment from these harmful toxins, RMC was created by, and is administered by, the Heang, Refrigeraon and Air Condioning Instute (HRAI) on behalf of the HVACR industry. Since its incepon, RMC has had tremendous success in helping to protect the ozone layer and to keep our environment clean. To date, the program has safely destroyed 2.6 million kilograms of ozone-depleng waste refrigerant, effecvely keeping 5.1 million kilograms of greenhouse gases out of our atmosphere.
