Halton Hills HIGH LOW 5 ·The IFP· Halton Hills, Thursday, May 17, 2012 FRI. 200 70 SAT. 250 90 SUN. 280 140 MON. 260 160 Arnott to Province: End talk of 4-3 highway alternative Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott put forward a resolution in the legislature Wednesday calling for the provincial government to end further consideration of Alternative 4-3 in the GTA West Corridor Study. The highway would cut through farmland south of Georgetown, ending in Milton. "Our community has been very clear. We don't want this highway cutting our community in two," Arnott argued. "The government should listen to the people of Halton Hills. "This is the outcome we hope to achieve. We are asking for a public commitment by the government to put an end to Alternative 4-3." Arnott has strongly supported the position taken by Halton Hills Council and Halton Region opposing Alternative 4-3. "I also want to thank Wendy Bruchal and the Concerned Residents Against Superhighway in Halton Hills (CRASHH) for all the work that they've done," he added. Arnott has long maintained that not only would Alternative 4-3 be detrimental to the community, but with the growing provincial debt, the government simply can't afford it. He has also supported the Town's alternative idea of widening Hwy. 401, consistently calling it a more cost-effective approach. Arnott's resolution is considered to be on the legislature's agenda, but no date has yet been set for its debate. Have a safe Long Weekend!
