26 The IFP · Halton Hills, Thursday, April 26, 2012 GLT Youth Company takes on Pride and Prejudice next week By ROXANNE THORTON GLT Youth Company Transforming an 18th century social satire into a wonderful stage play takes some talent, and that is exactly what the young performers of Georgetown Little Theatre's Youth Company have in spades. Pride and Prejudice, dating from 1813, is perhaps Jane Austin's most well known romance novel. As with most romantic comedies when the hero and the heroine cannot abide each other right from the start, you know that you are in for an evening of laughter, and wit as the sparks ignite within a fiery relationship. Of course, this masterly crafted play showcases not only the talents of the youth on stage, but also those of their creative production team. Director Cat Heaven has certainly staged a show, beautifully fashioned by an army of seamstresses lead by Anthea Hoare, which gallops effortlessly through the pages of this fascinating era. Although there are many characters, backstories and elaborate settings to keep straight, the story itself is full of romance and fun, taking place during an era when young women met their future husbands through elaborite social rules and rituals. Imagine having to find suitable husbands for five daughters, as Mrs. Bennet must do, and also her delight to have two wealthy, unmarried gentlemen fall right into her lap. You will certainly not want to miss the antics in that household! With limited space and performance dates, you will want to reserve your seats as soon as possible, as this larger than life masterpiece will certainly sell out. Tickets are $10.
