22 ·The IFP· Halton Hills ·Thursday, May 31, 2012 SPORTS & LEISURE Jags dance way to lacrosse title Playing shorthanded due to the school's prom, Christ the King's Jaguars captured the championship of the Sinclair High School girls' field lacrosse tournament in Whitby last week, prevailing 2-1 over Albert College of Belleville in the final. The Jags have also qualified for the Trillium Cup OFSAA Girls' Lacrosse Championship Festival held yesterday (Wednesday) and Thursday in Peterborough. It's the first season of girls' field lacrosse at CtK and no team from Halton has qualified for the 12-team OFSAA event before. Golden efforts David Sandro (above) and Ryan Oehrlein (right) of the Miltonbased Gold Medal Gymnastics turned in excellent scores at the Men's Artistics Gymnastics Ontario Championships held in Nepean recently. Thirteen-year-old Oehrlein earned a bronze medal in the topflight AR Class with a total score of 83.050 over the six required exercises, which included a first-place result on the rings and seconds in both the vault and parallel bars. Sandro, 11, had a spectacular routine in the vault exercise, finishing first and contributing to his sixthplace overall result in the same category as Oehrlein. Georgetown's Zachary Brautigam, 15, was 11th in the National Youth Session 9 competition. Gold Medal's Jeremy Menesses, 12, placed 15th in Session 12 for all age divisions, with 10-year-old teammate Mitchell Holloway finishing 16th. Pearson in Burlington on Tuesday in the HSSAA A/AA senior girls' semifinals. The Bearcats faced Oakville's St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders in Wednesday's Halton final match. Regardless of that result, Acton's seniors have qualified for the 20-team OFSAA senior girls' A championships in Elgin (near Kingston) June 7-9. In junior action, CtK's 5-1-1 girls' squad will face 4-2-1 Bishop Reding in the Halton quarterfinals today (Thursday) in Georgetown starting at 3:30 p.m. Also at home today for a quarterfinal playoff today are the first-place 6-1-1 Jaguar junior boys, who take on Milton District at 4:45 p.m. Acton runner qualifies for Boston Marathon Forty-eight-year-old Leanne Monaghan (left) has qualified for next year's Boston Marathon after cracking the four-hour mark at the recent Mississauga Marathon in her first attempt at the 42km run. The Acton native only took up running a year and a half ago and completed her first half-marathon in the fall, building her way up to the Mississauga race earlier this month. Monaghan, manager and registered massage therapist at Staying Alive Fitness in Acton for the past seven years, finished 38th out of 120 competitors in the women's 45-49 age group in a chip time of three hours, 57 minutes and 59 seconds.
