Acton Seniors Centre to hold all-day Mock Accreditation Survey on Monday By JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre On Tuesday, May 29 all members who joined the Acton Seniors Centre during the last six months are invited to a New Members Tea. This will be their opportunity to meet other new members, have any questions answered regarding the Centre and meet the 2012 board members. On Monday, May 28, there will be an all-day Mock Accreditation Survey at the Centre. Avanthi Goddard will be conducting the survey. Suzanne Blanchet Haffey is our Reception Chairperson. Over the next few months (due to holidays and other commitments), she will need several more people who are willing to work at the front desk. This is a great way to meet new people, and is very rewarding. Sixty people enjoyed the social dinner with the Italian theme last Tuesday. Mary Walsma was happy to win the 50/50 and Carmen Bissonnette, Bev Jones, Mark Bowmeester, Marg MacLellan and Marie Richardson each won door prizes. The next Social Dinner will be on Thursday, June 28. It will be celebrating the fact that June is Seniors Month. This is one of the social dinners that the board helps serve and prepare. Juke Box (my favorite husband and wife team) will be providing the entertainment. The music is great for dancing or tapping your toes. I believe ribs, chicken wings and roast potatoes are on the menu, but more details later. I mentioned the Fish Fry on July 28 recently, suggesting you mark your calendar. Well now you need your eraser as the Fish Fry has been cancelled. Two more leaves were added to our Looking to the Future trees on Friday, following lunch. They were in memory of Marg Dedman's husband Don on the fifth anniversary of his death, and her mother, Ella Law's recent death. This brings the total to six leaves. There are also leaves to celebrate her mother's 91st birthday, and the terrible accident that took the lives of her daughter Wendy, plus two grandsons and two granddaughters, and one in memory of her father, Scotty Law. A generous way to remember happy occasions and sad memories too. At Bid Euchre on Thursday afternoon Frances Hogenbirk had two mooners. On Tuesday, June 5, at 1 p.m. the movie is We Bought a Zoo. Michelle says this is a heartwarming true story. As the weather gets warmer don't forget the Centre is a nice cool oasis for you to pick up a book or stop in for a coffee and a chat. 17 ·The IFP· Halton Hills, Thursday, May 24, 2012
