Photo by Eamonn Maher FREE DELIVERY Bicycle to work on Monday By CYNTHIA GAMBLE Staff Writer Town of Halton Hills staff will be marking Bike to Work Day with a noon bike ride through local neighbourhoods and a picnic at the Georgetown Fairgrounds on Monday, May 28. Bike to Work Day is part of the Town's ongoing Smart Commute program which promotes alternative transportation options-- carpooling, cycling, providing sheltered bike lockers and walking. Councillor Janet Fogal, chair of the Town's Trails and Cycling Advisory, invited all residents to participate in Bike to Work Day and perhaps organize a group ride at lunch. On Monday, over the lunch hour, Town staff will participate in a group ride that will highlight neighbouring local trails and scenic neighbourhoods. It will culminate in a brown bag lunch at the Georgetown Fairgrounds. "It is encouraging to see the enthusiasm our employees are showing towards riding their bikes to work and participating in the noon hour ride. I am sure that getting some fresh air and a little exercise in the middle of the day will prove to be refreshing and a very enjoyable break," said Fogal. Wear your helmets, have your bike in good repair, get some exercise and have fun, she added. Smart Commute aims at reducing commuting costs, lowering traffic congestion, improving air quality and providing more sustainable travel options.
