16 ·The IFP· Halton Hills ·Thursday, June 7, 2012 St. John's United Church marks Queen's Jubilee with Tea and special service By DREW LEVERETTE St. John's United Church In celebration of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the church's 175th Anniversary, the people of St. John's United Church of Georgetown and Glen Williams invited friends and neighbours to relive the excitement of the Queen Elizabeth's 1953 Coronation. A Coronation Tea was held Saturday complete with sandwiches, scones, sweets and tea, followed by the showing of the original CBC footage of the 1953 Coronation. A Coronation Service was held on and the positive impact the members of St. John's had on the community. A recently discovered home movie clip of the June 2, 1953 Georgetown Coronation Parade coming up Guelph St. right in front of St. John's church was also shown. The Service ended with the arrival of "Queen Elizabeth" (St. John's member, Caroline Peasgood), who invited all to join her outside under the tents for Queen Elizabeth Cake, to play schoolyard games and to view some classic cars of the era. It was a wonderful way to celebrate St. John's 175th Anniversary and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Helen Mizener was happy to serve tea to three generations of the Clark family who attended the Coronation Tea held at St. John's United Church on Saturday. PAUL AND MIKE ARMSTRONG June 3, including hymns and music from the original 1953 Coronation Service in Westminster Abbey.
