Dale Levere credits the dog who lives next door with saving his life after he suffered an obstruction in his windpipe due to Wegener's granulomatosis, a rare disorder that causes blood vessels mainly in the lungs, ears, sinuses and kidneys to become inflamed. Levere was diagnosed with the disease in 2005. On Wednesday June 13 about 9:20 a.m. Levere, 57, was home alone when he coughed and suffered the blockage. He began to choke and couldn't breathe. "I couldn't get it loose," said Levere. "I tried coughing, everything, I tried to do the Heimlich manuevre on myself." But he could not free the blockage and was choking to death. Police seized a quantity of illicit drugs including marijuana, hashish, cocaine, MDMA and methamphetamine. The street value of the seized drugs is estimated at approximately $16,000. He decided his best chance for help was to get outside and over to Wendy's. He made it outside to the patio and started to yell, but unknown to him little sound came out. But luckily for him Jorji, who knows Levere well, was outside. "Jorji could hear me and (he realized) that something's not right. He just kept barking, barking and barking," said Levere. Jorji's owner Behling heard the barking and went to investigate because she said the only person that usually sets the dog off really barking is the mailman, and it wasn't that time of day.
