Grade 2 student Jared Bell was among the more than 70 students, teachers and parents at Gardiner Public School who had their heads shaved to donate their hair to cancer victims' wigs. Jared had been growing his hair for the past two years to get it long enough to be used in the program. Vince Russo of Red Lemon Hair did the honours of helping Jared and his hair part company. Through continuous dedication and determination to various fundraising causes, these leaders were able to raise a grand total of $10,000. The proceeds have been distributed among three organizations: $2,000 to CTK Hope Project who bring senior students to the Dominican Republic to build homes; $3,000 to Holy Cross Helps, a local organization that helps those less fortunate in our own community; $4,500 has been sent to Free the Children, a non-profit organization that will use it to provide clean water and proper sanitation to remote villages in Kenya. Above are from left, Natalie Litster, Marta Kraguljac, Nicole Vidovic and Mari MacDonald. The International Baccalaureate Student League at Georgetown District High School hosted "Have a taste of the world', a cultural experience including foods from all over the world to fundraise for Free the Children's Brick by Brick campaign. The students raised almost $6,000, as well as money raised by caroling at Christmas, bringing the total to $6,500 for the Brick by Brick Foundation. All funds will be going towards building a school in Kenya. Each school costs $8,500 to build, so the IB students are very close to their goal after only one major fundraising event. Those IB students taking part included (from left) Wayne Fang, Serisha Iyar, Monique Tuin, Andrew Weisz, Meghan de Chastelain, Katrina Dods, and Adam Vanderleest.
