Tractors this year's theme at 99th Acton Fall Fair What's considered `The Best Little Fair in Ontario' will mark its 99th year this weekend at Prospect Park in Acton in its familiar old-fashioned country way. Tractors are the main theme for this edition of the Acton Fall Fair, which will be based out of the Acton Agricultural Society's Dufferin Community Centre. Kids are invited to decorate their bikes with the tractor theme in mind and take part in the parade Saturday, with the lineup slated for 11 a.m. Organizers are hopeful that rain showers forecast for late Friday won't put too much of a damper on the proceedings. Horse shows, tractor pulls, a midway, poultry exhibit, homecraft exhibition are among the favourite attractions at the fair, along with live entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights. Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. is reserved as Education Day for school classes. The fair opens to the public at 4 p.m. with the opening of the Home Craft Exhibit, and the midway opens at 5:30 p.m. Activities on Friday night include the Miss Acton Fall Fair Ambassador Pageant at 8 p.m., heavy horse pull, and homecraft presentation, as well as a performance by the Acton Citizens' Band at 7 p.m. The fair runs from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Events on Saturday include the cattle, poultry, and horse shows, the noon parade, horseshoe pitching contest, baby show, Northern Borders Flyball show and tractor pulls. A Battle of the Bands competition will take place Saturday in the Dufferin Community Centre beginning at 8 p.m. Branch 197 will be serving breakfast on Saturday from 7-11 a.m. at the Acton Legion auditorium, 15 Wright Ave. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for kids under 10. On Sunday, activities include the English horse show, dairy cattle show, antique tractor pull, 4x4 truck pull, pet show, pedal tractor pull and a "Harvest Stew" cooking challenge. Admission is $9 for adults, $8 (seniors/ youth 13-17), $4 children and free for children under five. Parking costs $5. A $20 weekend pass is available at all local banks.
