A fun time was had by all on a perfect golf day, weather wise at Lions Head Golf & Country Club. Habitat for Humanity was presented with a cheque for $5,000. Dementia Education Series-- a learning series for family members and friends of individuals with dementia-- begins Tuesday, Sept. 18 at St. George's Anglican Church, 60 Guelph St. The five-session series continues on Tuesdays, from 7-8:30 p.m. until Oct. 16. The series builds a strong understanding of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. Topics include: the different types of dementia, the resulting changes in the brain, the latest developments in research, planning for the future and helping the person with memory loss to remain independent for as long as possible. A second series on Care Essentials: Middle Stage Dementia Education, will be held Tuesdays, Oct. 9, 16 and 23, 1-3 p.m. at St. George's Anglican Church. This 3-session learning series will focus on the middle stage of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. We will discuss topics such as: communication strategies, activities of daily living, understanding and supporting changes in behaviours, safety and security of the home environment, and caring for yourself. Again registration is required.
