ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT Review Superb GLT cast gels in funny play, Don't Misunderstand Me By Cynthia Gamble cgamble@theifp.ca Georgetown Little Theatre ended its "55th Fabtastic Season" with a "fabtastic" performance of the British farce, Don't Misunderstand Me. Written by Patrick Cargill, directed by Mike Butterworth and produced by Gina Van Raalte, the production, which opened Friday night at the John Elliott Theatre, is almost a laugh a minute, as misunderstandings and hijinks abound. Set in the Richmond suburb of London, it centres on husband and wife, Charles and Margery, who are preparing to entertain Charles's brother Robert and his brand new wife Jane. But Robert shows up sans Jane, and guess who shows up next-- Charles's American sweetheart Jaynie, who Charles tries to pass off as Jane. When Jane the wife finally shows up... uh oh. The cast really gels together, with each bringing their own fine comedic talent to the forefront in their own way. Margery played by Rosanna Armata and Charles played by Mark Rector are very reminiscent of Alice and Ralph in the old 1950s Honeymooners show. Their comedy was a combination of buffoonery and sly digs. Newcomer Constantine Karolidis is excellent as the suave sophisticated Robert, who has trouble understanding all the various twists and turns created by brother Charles. Shona Sneddon is absolutely hilarious as Jaynie, and even managed on Opening Night to elicit laughter from her co-stars. Rhianna Cunningham rounds out the cast as Jane and she holds her own with the other four on stage. The setting, lighting, costumes and backstage work were all up to GLT's high standards. This play is an ideal opportunity to enjoy a fun night out on the town, without having to drive miles to find it. ****** The play concludes this weekend, with performances, Wednesday to Saturday, 8 p.m. at the John Elliott Theatre.
