Join HALC-Acton for Safe Food Handling course By Julie Conroy Hillsview Active Living Centre- Acton Well I am now back to the reality of a Canadian winter after spending two weeks in the warm sunshine in Punta Cana. The Centre will be closed on Monday, Feb. 20 when we celebrate Family Day. On Monday, Feb, 13 we had our Valentine Dinner. Over 80 people attended and Ronnie Russell provided the entertainment. I understand it was third time lucky for the Birthday Tea on Tuesday, Jan. 31. It was cancelled twice due to the weather. Almost 60 people enjoyed the afternoon with cake, tea and coffee and chatting to old friends and meeting new people. You can look forward to summer by booking to see the Toronto Blue Jays play the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday, Aug. 12. The bus will leave the new Georgetown arena at 10 a.m. It is open to everyone. The cost is very reasonable when you consider you don't have to face the traffic, and pay for parking. If you would like more information talk to Florence on Friday mornings at the Acton Centre or read the info sheet in the travel section rack. Heather Beaumont, our Volunteer Coordinator, has arranged a one day Safe Food Handling course on Tuesday, Feb. 21 in the Acton Boathouse starting at 9 a.m.4 p.m. We encourage anyone who is involved in handling and serving food to participate. The information you learn will not only help you as a volunteer but in your home as well. The signup sheet is at the reception desk. The winner of the Georgetown Uptown Spa complimentary January birthday pedicure was Paula Alves, and Marge Lane won the lovely sweater which was the prize for the monthly raffle. This month's prize is a beautiful crystal vase and chocolates. While I was away I heard a long time member Fern Schultis passed away. The Centre would like to pass on condolences to her daughter Diane and family. Pat and Dobbie Frizzell's daughter Margie also died suddenly this week. Again we extend our condolences to Pat, Dobbie and family. Friday lunch on Feb. 24 will be Salisbury steak, potatoes salad and desert followed by Bingo at 1:15 p.m. There were no winning 50/50 names pulled over the past three weeks.
