Novice Blue Twisters photo North Halton novice Blue Twisters top at own tourney Connor Brown scored at the 1:20 mark of overtime to give the Halton Hills minor peewee A Thunder a 3-2 victory over the Burling- ton Eagles and the champi- onship title at the Irish South Bend Cup on the his- toric campus of the Univer- sity of Notre Dame in Indi- ana. In the preliminary round, the Thunder thumped the Muskegon Jr. Jacks 7-2, lost to Burling- ton 4-3 and defeated the Ca- zenovia Chiefs 9-2 to set up a rematch with the Eagles in the final on the same ice surface that they had watched the Notre Dame varsity men's team play on the night before. Minor Peewee A Thunder photo A men's hockey team, comprised of players from the local Georgetown Men's Non-Contact Hock- ey League (GMNCHL) re- cently travelled to Prague, Czech Republic to compete in an international ama- teur hockey tournament named Prague's Barrel. After qualification round games against teams from Russia and Ukraine, Georgetown was seeded against the Stock- holm Knights from Sweden in the semifinals, who they beat 10-3 to advance. In the finals they faced a team from Italy, and after a chip- py and close first period, Georgetown pulled away to win 7-3 and claim first place in their division. As the only Canadian representatives in the tour- nament, the team wore Ca- nadian "Hip" jerseys as a tribute to the late Gord Downie of the Tragically Hip.
