The Project targeted School and Community Safety Zones to remind drivers to take extra care in those areas as the kids head back to school. In total across the region, of- ficers laid 1,908 charges. The breakdown is: • 1,152 for speeding • 142 seatbelt infractions • 158 stop sign infractions • 456 others including 28 Distracted Driving charges During the project several suspended drivers were taken off the road, two commercial vehicles were taken out of ser- vice for severe mechanical de- fects and at least one person was charged with Stunt Driv- ing. All of these charges oc- curred in School and Commu- nity Safety Zones.
