Sitting at the .500 mark with a 3-3-1 record, the Raiders are set to spend a lot of time on the bus in the next few days starting with a trip to Kingston to face the 4-2-0 Voyageurs Thursday evening. Georgetown will host the 2-3-1 Whitby Fury Sat- urday at the Alcott Arena at 7:30 p.m., with a quick turnaround before taking on the 4-3-0 Toronto Jr. Canadiens Sunday at 10:30 p.m. for the annual Gov- ernors' Showcase contest in front of major junior, post-secondary school and pro scouts at Oakville's Sixteen Mile Sports Complex. On Monday, they'll visit Buffalo to clash with their divisional-rivals, the 3-1-0 Jr. Sabres, for the first time this season. The Raiders broke out of a four-game losing streak Saturday with a convincing 5-1 victory over the guest Pickering Panthers. Ryan Smith, Anthony Marra, Kyle Allan, John Adams and rookie Andrew Court, with his first Jr. A marker, scored for the home side, with Steve Hladin and Liam Clare adding two assists each. Friday night, the Raiders paid their first visit to the new Duke Dome in Wellington. Michael Cour- voisier opening the scoring for Georgetown early on but the Dukes went on to a 4-1 win. NOTES: Local resident and former Raider Andy Bathgate has joined a pro team in Belgium after one year at the University of Guelph in which he led the Gryphons in scoring...Highly-touted defender Thom- as Welsh, who left the Raiders midway through last season to sign on with the OHL's Mississauga Steel- heads, is now at Brock University...Forward Nicho- las Dozzi has made the roster of the QMJHL's Cape Breton Screaming Eagles...Georgetown's Josh Sterk reacted well to his surprise trade from the Kitchener Rangers to Oshawa last week. The 18-year-old cen- tre had a goal and four assists in his first two games with the Generals and sits sixth in OHL scoring... Barrie Colts' first-round draft pick Matthew Kreis of Georgetown had a goal and an assist in his debut last week, a 7-4 win over Sarnia. Kreis, a 16-year-old centre, was named the game's third star. The weather co-operated nicely for the 774 elementary school runners who took part in last week's two-day Optimist Club of Halton Hills cross- country meet held at Cedarvale Park. Halton Hills Christian School won three of the six team points titles on day one of the competition, which involved students age 8-10. On day two, Centennial Middle School's Chargers were the overall champs for the 11-13 age groups with three team banners earned. Stewart- town's Stingers were tops in the 13- year-old age groups for boys and girls. In November, Lending Jour- ney founder Vince Vetro of Georgetown will take the funds to the Central American country to hand out to about 30 women for them to start up small businesses in their rural communities.
