Al- though singing with about 800 other singers is a rare event, to- gether with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, it was an unforgettable experience. We hope to give you, our audience, an equally exciting season! First is a house concert at the home of Music Director Ron Greidanus, 157 Main St. S., Georgetown on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 8 p.m. Sponsored by the Chorale it features a rarely per- formed Piano Quintet in D Major by Arensky plus Chopin's stir- ring Piano Concerto in E minor played by Greidanus, a pianist, backed by four string players. Bach's Christmas Oratorio (Part One) and his Magnifi- cat will be presented in Christ Church Anglican, Brampton, on Nov. 22, 7:30 p.m. and again on Sunday, Nov. 24 at St. Elias Ukrainian Church on Heritage Rd at 2:30 p.m. The concert is a great prelude to the Christmas season. Closer to Christmas the traditional three house con- certs, Dec. 20-22, will be given also at 157 Main Street. Tickets are limited for all these popular concerts so buy yours now! Later in the season there is a Piano and Poetry evening, Feb- ruary 2 (4 p.m.) featuring Ed- gar Allen Poe, read by our wn Vera MacDonald with piano by Ron Greidanus, followed by a stew and cheese reception. Also in February, the Chorale warms you up with Heavenly Spheres ... a Choral Celebration. This Feb. 23 concert will be held 2:30 p.m. at the Croatian Centre. Buzzfest will have Terra Cotta buzzing When encaustic and mixed media artist Kim McCarthy became friends with Judy Vella, owner of the Terra Cotta Country Store, the two wom- en immediately felt a creative connection. A shared love for art and food made the birth of an arts and food festival a natural out- come. October 5-6, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. the women will see the fruits of their passions unify in a festival hosted at the Terra Cotta Country Store and co- ordinated by the friends. The event affectionately named Buzzfest pays homage to the importance of the natural world and the ongoing need for a balanced ecosystem. Buzzfest is an outdoor art and food festival featuring ap- proximately 30 high-calibre artisans and foodies from the local and surrounding area. McCarthy and Vella both felt strongly that artists exhib- iting their work be inspired by nature and sensitive to envi- ronmental practices. Painters, photographers, potters, textile artists, sculptors, woodturners, upcycled artists will be side by side with chefs and farmers will be side by side sharing the gifts of their labours. All are invited to stroll the gardens which the artists are transforming into a living gal- lery. Festival guests can enjoy samples of organic goat cheese, purchase roasted chemical- free sausages, indulge in a des- sert from any one of the pastry chefs participating, take home local produce direct from the grower and shop for that per- fect work of art, all in a park- like setting. Songwriter and Source of the Song host Bruce Madole has announced that Source of the Song 24 will feature a line- up of three special guest song- writers: Duane Steele, Jake Mathews, and Nashville's Wyatt Easterling on Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. in the Terra Cotta Community Centre. "We got word last week that the Troubadours Tour would have some availability in our area," said Madole. "This was a golden opportunity to pres- ent them to a local audience-- three fabulous songwriters, from Alberta and Nashville, that we would not normally get a chance to hear in this kind of intimate setting." Steele is an Alberta-based artist and songwriter whose music has earned him five Juno nominations, and 11 nomina- tions for Canadian Country Music Awards, including two wins for Best Independent Male Artist and Best Vocal Collabo- ration (with Lisa Brokop, for "Two Names on an Overpass"). Sudbury-born songwriter and artist Jake Mathews now calls Alberta home, and he has himself garnered several CCMA awards nominations, includ- ing a Rising Star nomination. With a new CD out, his fourth, and a new song ("Beer Neces- sities) gaining attention on ra- dio, Mathews is a veteran song- writer who is no stranger to the Alberta and Nashville music scenes. Easterling is a hit songwriter in the Nashville scene (among his many cuts, he wrote "Mod- ern Day Drifter", the title track for Dierks Bentley multi-plati- num CD) who has a long histo- ry as a songwriter and producer (as well as record label execu- tive), and he has just completed a new CD, early copies of which will be available at the perfor- mance. Tickets are available by con- tacting co-producers Bruce or Marlene Madole. 905-459-9753 (or via email at brucemadole@ sympatico.ca). Tickets are $20 advance and $23 on the day of the show.
