During the blitz, which ran from Dec. 4 to Jan. 2, police stopped 18,538 drivers across the region and made 32 impaired-related arrests. The previous year, 17,396 vehicles were stopped re- sulting in 37 impaired-related charg- es. In Halton Hills and Milton during the 2012 campaign police stopped 5,872 drivers, laying nine charges for having over 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood and four impaired charges. Police also issued nine three-day sus- pensions and two seven-day suspen- sions. During the 2011 campaign in Hal- ton Hills and Milton 4,866 vehicles were stopped and nine charges were laid for having over 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood and eight for im- paired driving. In Oakville last month 6,591 vehicles were stopped in the RIDE (Reduce Im- paired Driving Everywhere) campaign and police laid three charges of having 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood and three impaired charges. "No doubt these 911 calls helped keep our community safe," said Constable Paul Ru- dall, who initiated and co-ordinated the cam- paign. In conjunction with the campaign, offi cers from Milton and Halton Hills embarked on an aggressive enforcement and education cam- paign to identify impaired drivers who put their lives and the lives of others at risk and remove them from our roads, police said.
