Town staff started taking the ice out for the last time yesterday (Monday), but the cold temperatures were delaying the process. A free public skate was held Friday and Sunday at the arena that had been in opera- tion for 91 years. The Town will continue to operate Memorial throughout the summer with sports such as lacrosse and inline skat- ing being held there, but there won't be any- more ice. The Town plans to demolish it in the fall. Elayne Fraser brought her kids and a friend to the free public skate Friday after- noon. "This place has been my son's fi rst expe- rience with rep hockey this year. Seeing it closed is kind of bittersweet for me. We spent lots of time here." Her daughter Mackenna, 10, added, "I want to skate and play hockey next year, and it's a shame that Memorial won't be here anymore." Growing up in Georgetown, the Bradley sisters-- Carol Hall, Laurie MacKenzie and Lisa Densmore all had their own memories of Memorial Arena.
