Photo by Ted Brown The Acton Branch of the Canadian Can- cer Society is once again gearing up for the Spring Annual Cancer Campaign. The Kick-Off Campaign evening will take place on Wednesday, April 3 at Knox Presbyterian Church, Acton, starting at 7 p.m. Dessert and coffee will be served as at- tendees listen to the invited guest speaker David Josephy, a Professor in the Depart- ment of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Guelph, where he has taught since 1983. He has done research on the mechanisms of action of chemical carcinogens as well as aspects of cancer radiation therapy and chemotherapy. He is the author of the textbook "Molecular Toxi- cology". Following the diagnosis of a rela- tive with GIST (gastrointestinal stromal tu- mour), a rare sarcoma, in 2000, he became actively involved with cancer patient advo- cacy initiatives. He serves as the President of Life Raft Group Canada, a charitable- status support group for GIST patients. The community is invited to come out and hear the latest discoveries being made.
