Families, youth, citizens' and corporate or team building groups can volunteer in the 2013 Volunteer Program. Starting on April 27, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Earthday--Every- day Event, people will be "buzzing" around in the Butterfl y Garden, tak- ing inventory of riverine and wetland benthic communities, and renewing the entrance (Xeroscape) garden. Join in to care for Mother Earth and see how the park evolves! During Stewardship and Monitoring Programs suitable volunteers can act as leaders and/or help- ers while they experience opportunities to learn how to identify wildlife, critters and tree species, and monitor tree growth. Those who step forward to help with gardening learn about water effi ciency, what plants are habitat or food for which wildlife and important insect species, and what plants are invaders that can overrun our local natural spaces if not kept in check. Of course, the learning occurs while engaged in hands-on projects that may include getting your hands dirty, while digging, planting, weeding, wa- tering.
