The 17-year-olds beat a team from Orleans, Ont. 21-13, 21-15 in the championship match of the tri- als event at the Volleyball Canada National Training Centre in Downsview earlier this month to grab a spot in the North & Central America & Caribbean) NORCECA Central Zone Youth Olympic Games un- der-17 qualifi cation tournament in September. If victorious in Puerto Rico, they would qualify for next year's World Youth Olympics in China. Mac- Neil, a Grade 11 Georgetown District High School student, and Richards, both members of Volleyball Canada's national beach development team, will also play for their country at the men's under-19 world championships in Cyprus in July and most of their weekends are booked with tournaments, including the nationals in Edmonton next month. The duo won the Ontario Volleyball Association under-18 boys' beach titles last summer. MacNeil also plays indoors with the Guelph under-17 Grizzlies and they took part in this past weekend's OVA Championships in Waterloo, earning bronze medals in their division.
