T he IFP• Parenting •Thursd ay, June 6, 2013 5 Moms and dads and kids of all ages are invited to join Credit Valley Conser- vation, WPEC and the community to learn more about ecology and the en- vironment while restoring Willow Park Ecology Centre on Saturday, June 8, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. This event will happen rain or shine. Located in Norval (access off Mary St.) along the west branch of the Credit River at the east end of Hungry Hollow, the former trailer park is gradually re- turning to a natural area for education and recreation through dedicated vol- unteer efforts. The current challenge is the dis- placement of native trees, shrubs and wildfl owers with invasive plant species such as European Buckthorn and Gar- lic Mustard. On June 8, volunteers will target the removal of small Buckthorn trees and replacement planting of na- tive trees. Buckthorn is harmful to birds, shade tolerant native shrubs/herbs and some farm crops (www.ontarioinvasiveplants. ca). Tips on preventing spread of inva- sive plants include: avoiding the use of them in your gardens and landscape, remaining on designated trails when hiking and contacting the Invasive Spe- cies Hotline 1-800-563-7711 with your questions. Nurture your green thumb and your soul as you experience nature during this opportunity to give back to North Halton's beautiful Ecology Centre! Be sure to dress for the weather. Shovels, gloves, and light refreshments will be provided. To register visit www.willowparke- cology.ca Volunteer page.
