Unit 104, Stoney Creek Town wants police to monitor increased truck traffi c in Acton In response to additional truck traffi c travelling through Acton to two Erin gravel pits, the Town of Halton Hills has request- ed Halton Police inspections and enforce- ment as well as a route change from the pit operators. Dr. Marieke Wevers, who lives on Wel- lington Rd. 125 (Hwy. 25) north of Halton Hills, was one of many complaining to the Town about the truck traffi c. She claims there were at least 600 trucks daily headed to the pits. "I note that my clients have made ob- servations that they can't get through Ac- ton and I, like many of these people, have stopped shopping locally because despite wanting to support the local businesses it is not worth the risk to be hit by a dump truck (or have your mirror clipped off your vehicle) in the downtown core," Dr. Wevers stated in an email to The IFP. "There have been multiple cases of my clients having near-misses with speeding trucks passing aggressively or nearly rear- ending them entering my business. I can only imagine the chaos these convoys of trucks are creating in the downtown core." A Town staff investigation found that two sites were generating the extra truck traffi c since the beginning of June: Mul- mar Aggregates, Ospringe Pit, located on Wellington Road 125, approximately half km south of Wellington Road 124 and a property at 5054 First Line, (Town of Erin) Erin, south of Wellington Road 50. According to Mayor Rick Bonnette, Town staff visited both Erin pits yesterday (Wednesday) to discuss truck traffi c issues and impacts on the Acton urban area. The Town wants trucks going to and from the pits to use Trafalgar Rd. and Wellington Rd. 124. "Both of these sites are outside of Hal- ton Hills boundaries and the roads cur- rently being used are under multiple ju- risdictions. Therefore staff will require the co-operation of both the site operators and the other road authorities to try to mitigate the negative impacts on Halton Hills," said the mayor. The Town has also requested truck safe- ty inspections and enforcement from Hal- ton Regional Police Services (HRPS). The Town will also begin talks with the Ministry of Transportation regarding truck traffi c through Acton (Halton Hills) due to these operations as well as the proposed Hidden Quarry to be located in Guelph Eramosa.
