What about those hydro personnel who worked day and night to get your power back on! There are no words that will ever express our grati- tude to them. The only two words we have, "thank you" come from our hearts for their tireless efforts. Another year, 2014, has begun and we live in anticipation for what it will bring to our Centre. Beginning on Monday, Jan. 6, we are going to reintroduce the 50/50 draw. It will work differently than in the past. The draw will be held every Friday afternoon. Names of all those who have paid their 2014 membership will be placed in the drum. If you wish to take part that week, you will need to come to the Reception Desk, pay your toonie, and write your name in a book. On Friday one name will be drawn from the drum. If that person has paid for that week, they will win half the pot. If not, the pot will continue on to the next week and you will need to pay and sign again. Have you been in to the Centre to see and try out the new furniture in the café? Really looks neat! Monies came from a spe- cial grant. Grants such as this can be ap- plied to special needs only and cannot be used to supplement membership fees. We need to thank the girls in the Office for their tireless efforts to find funds to make our Centre a great place to call ours. Active Living classes have resumed. Computer classes have begun. Conversa- tional French classes are underway. All drop-in programs are up and going again. Happy New Year. I am sure many had a very eventful time leading up to Christmas with the power outages. Hopefully it didn't affect your en- joyment of the Christmas festivities. I am sure we had lots of stories to tell of how we coped with keeping warm whether by going to relatives and friends, or just wait- ing for the power to return. We certainly take many things for granted, and at times like this we learn to appreciate the things we take for granted like hot food, heat and friends. I know the 35 people that are going with me to St Maartins are looking forward to the sunshine. At the start of the New Year, the Centre is anticipating changes to our layout and redesign of the Centre that will take place during late spring 2014. On January 7 we will be celebrating the birthdays of members born in either De- cember or January. The program commit- tee will be calling to invite you and your guest in the next few days. The lunch on Friday, Jan. 10 will be lasa- gna and Caesar salad. On Monday, Jan. 13 we will be having an evening social dinner and dance. Time to dance off those extra pounds you put on over the holidays. On Jan. 14 at 1 p.m. the movie will be Cirque Du Soleil. The 50/50 was not won on December 20.
