Photo by Ted Brown Acton Seniors seeks new board members By JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre Our next social dinner will be on Thursday Feb. 13 when we celebrate an early Valentine's Day. I know it will be a full house, as we will be enjoying Swiss Chalet chicken, baked potatoes and cole- slaw and Real promises a special dessert. Denise Fex will be enter- taining us once again with her beautiful voice. Tickets are now available at the front desk. The Friday lunch on Feb. 7 will be fish and chips, plus dessert, tea and coffee. It is important that you sign up for this lunch by Thursday at the latest as it is difficult to add more people on at the last moment. Have you picked up the latest copy of our newsletter Hillsview? It is available at the front desk. In it you will see that the Annual Gener- al Meeting is on Tuesday, March 25 at 2 p.m. We are currently seeking nominations for four positions for the Board: Secretary, Membership chair, Social chair and Treasurer. If interested, or know someone who is, please see the office staff. Now is your chance to learn more about a subject not dis- cussed very often. Elder abuse, social isolation, neglect, and inter- generational conflict, On Tuesday Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. there will be a pre- sentation at the Centre by SAVIS (Sexual assault and violence in- tervention services). This is a free Seniors Circle presentation. Roberta Thompson had the only mooner at Bid Euchre. Another leaf was added to our Tree of Hope in memory of Elizabeth (Betty) McLeod by her daughter Helen. This makes the 196th leaf, a special way of re- membering a person, or event in your life. Betty enjoyed coming to the social dinners at the Centre. Georgetown Seniors Centre to host Valentine Tea, Feb. 13 Congratulations to Grant Green- away, the winner of our 50/50 Draw. Now we start all over again. A re- minder that the 50/50 Draw is open to paid up members only. We are going to celebrate Valen- tine's Day with a tea on Thursday, February 13 beginning at 1 p.m. Tickets, $6, are on sale at Reception. There will be musical entertainment and light refreshments. Remember gentlemen you are valentines as well. Volunteers are needed to fill up our Kitchen roster. The morning shift runs from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and afternoon shifts from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. If a shift is not cov- ered it will be necessary to close the kitchen for that shift. We would re- ally appreciate your help if you have some time to spare. Some of you inquired about lessons for Bid Euchre. Arrange- ments have been made for a lesson with the Master, Lorne Hammond, on Tuesday, February 13, 1 p.m. Here's your opportunity to learn or brush up your skills. The Winter Olympics are coming to your Centre on Friday 23. It will begin with a lunch of soup, meat tart, dessert, tea/coffee at 12:30 p.m. Teams will be made up by a blind draw. Competition includes Wagon Puzzle, Barrel of Monkeys, Toilet Toss, Golf Putting, Billiards, Bowl- ing, etc. What a way to have fun and beat the winter blahs! The cost is $10 and includes registration, lunch and prizes. If you choose you may have lunch only for $5. Anyone interested must register and pay through the Office by Friday, Febru- ary 21.
