Scrabbling for a win Organizers of the second annual Peteypalooza fund- raiser for cancer are seeking support for the event that will take place on Saturday, March 15, 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Acton Legion. The event features live mu- sic from The Bodyshop Boys, Scarecrow and Three Strung Up. There will be a raffle ta- ble, a 50/50 draw, door priz- es, photo booth and a light buffet. Tickets are $15 at the door or can be purchased in advance at Tanner's Pub & Grill, Acton Home Hardware or Pete's Auto Paint. Initially a private event, Peteypalooza, named after Pete Hargrave of Pete's Auto Paint, started in July of 2009. Last year the first public event was held at the Acton Legion. It was a huge success and raised $10,000 for local can- cer initiatives. To date, the Peteypalooza Crew has raised over $12,750 for cancer. This year, the event is dedi- cated to Caroline Seads. In February of 2009, Seads was diagnosed with breast cancer while pregnant with her sec- ond child. She was told that they were inducing her be- cause she would need to start treatment the following week. That year she underwent che- mo and radiation and a dou- ble bi-lateral mastectomy, all at the age of 25. On February 21, 2012, Seads lost her battle with cancer at the age of 28, leav- ing behind her boys, Dawson, 5 and Ryder, 3. During her last days, Seads set up a trust for her boys and asked the Peteypalooza Crew to keep it in the minds of those look- ing to help. Donations can be made at any time to The Wil- son-Seads Trust at CIBC bank in Acton. This year, the crew will donate all the proceeds from Peteypalooza 2014 to CAShh (Cancer Assistance Services of Halton Hills - www.can- cerassistance.org. ) This non-profit organiza- tion relies on the support of events like Peteypalooza, as they do not receive govern- ment funding. If you are interested in making a mon- etary donation to CAShh you can do so online or come out and support this event.
