Friday is an unpaid day for HDSB teachers A Hamilton man is facing charges in connection with three residential break and enters in rural Halton Hills and Milton Friday (Feb. 28). Halton Police say during the break- ins a male suspect forced his way through a rear door of the unoccu- pied homes. While inside, the suspect took a variety of electronics, clothing and personal effects. The entries were reported to police who saw a suspicious van in the area. When police attempted to pull over the vehicle, it fled the area, but was later stopped by police in the area of Hwy. 25 and James Snow Parkway in Milton. After investigation police arrested the occupant of the van. Charged with three counts of break and enter, posses- sion of property obtained by crime, possession of burglary tools, flight from police and drive while under suspension is Terrence Johnson, 50, of Hamilton. Johnson was held for a bail hearing. Halton Police continue to investi- gate these and other rural entries in Milton and Halton Hills. With March break on the horizon, Police remind the public to crime proof their homes while they're away. Police offer these tips: • Whether you go away for a day or week, use automatic timers that turn lights on and off to give your home the appearance of being occupied • Leave your travel schedule and phone number with a trusted neigh- bour or relative so that you may be contacted if necessary. • Leave a door key and key to your alarm system (if you have one) with a neighbour. • Have a neighbour pick up newspapers and mail or discontinue all deliveries. • Arrange to have your lawn mowed or snow shov- eled. • If you have a second car, leave it in your drive- way or arrange to have a neighbour park their car in your driveway. • Check all windows and doors to make sure that they are locked. • Lock your garage. • Above all, enjoy yourself know- ing that you left your home as secure as you reasonably could make it. Anyone with information to assist in the above investigation can contact the 1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at (905) 878-5511 ext. 2415. Man charged with north Halton break-ins
