Brad Bruder, 15, an activity leader with Scouts Canada (4th Georgetown) will be joining several other scouts in the village of Ambato Boeni to help ex- pand onto what Scouts Canada started creating there in 2009. That year Scouts Canada fundraised to build two wells so that people could have clean drinking water. In 2012 a school was created with three class- rooms for the youth of the village to be educated, and a washroom facility was added. This summer, Bruder and the other scouts will construct another school building with three more classrooms and provide irrigation to their gardens and running water to their washroom facility. "After completion, the school will now be able to educate 300 students and the village will be able to become more indepen- dent," said Bruder. The total cost of the project is about $82,500, which has been split amongst the participants. Bruder's share is $3,750, and through fundrais- ing to date he is about $300 shy of reaching that goal. A Scouts Canada Madagascar fund- raiser is being held at Glazed Expres- sions on Thursday, May 1 from 5-9 p.m. All ages are welcome. Cost is $20 per person and includes pottery, paint, pizza and pop/juice. No artistic skill is necessary. A portion of money raised will go to the Scouts.
