Building on the Town's many ex- isting energy conservation projects, the Town of Halton Hills is nearing completion of the Mayor's Commu- nity Energy Plan - in close collabo- ration with Halton Hills Community Energy Corporation. The Plan will be designed to provide a practical roadmap for the Town to achieve operational efficien- cies that can result in lower Town facility operating costs, vehicle fleet improvements and enhanced en- ergy management. The Plan is also anticipated to help reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions in the broader community. Possible economic benefits may include lower energy costs and new employment. In terms of the Town's munici- pal operations, the Energy Plan will meet the requirements of the Green Energy Act by preparing a five-year Corporate Energy Plan. It is also an- ticipated to recommend targets for reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions from municipal opera- tions. Halton Hills already has the many key ingredients needed to achieve greater energy efficiency, including: • Thriving downtown areas of Ac- ton and Georgetown • Extensive greenspace • Emphasis on more compact de- velopment • Strong relationship with Halton Hills Community Energy Corpora- tion • Existing initiatives focused on energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reductions If you have any comments or sug- gestions on the Mayor's Community Energy Plan project, share them with the Planning, Development and Sus- tainability Department by May 23 via www.haltonhills.ca/sustainability or sustainability@haltonhills.ca or 905- 873-2601 ext. 2289.
