For 13 straight years they have cleaned up the Sixth Line from the 15 Sideroad all the way to Steeles Avenue. The Schenks have always worked as a team but now, due to a back in- jury, John mainly drives and waits for Janet to complete a section. Their son Jeff and granddaughter usually pitch in too. Janet had praise for the Town staff, which provides the bags and gloves. "They are wonderful. They come and pick up all the green bags that I leave by the roadside. They know me for sure. "I do it because I am a nature lover. I love to see the beautiful countryside with no litter. Seeing litter bothers me so when I see it I have to pick it up. When we go out for walks we always take litter bags with us. We can't help ourselves. It is probably the Dutch in us," said Janet. It takes the Schenks many days to cover the distance but they tackle it a bit at a time and eventually it all gets done. There are some areas in front of houses that are left for the own- ers. They concentrate on areas beside farmer's fields where no one else will clean it up.
