Milton native Steve Michaels -- bet- ter known locally as Stephen Kaba- kos -- is set to perform at Knox Presbyterian Church on Friday, May 2. The concert, which also serves as a fundraiser for the church, is dubbed the Elvis Gospel Show. But don't let the name fool you. The evening will in- clude a mix of both Elvis' rock and gospel hits, said Michaels' manager, Mark Erwin. "He'll bring the flavour of Elvis from the '50s, '60s and '70s. Everybody hun- gers for a little shaking of the hips and Hound Dog," said Erwin. "And power ballads, like How Great Thou Art, will bring the house down." Michaels has been performing as the King of Rock and Roll for almost 20 years. Over the past two decades he's become known as one of the most authentic Elvis tribute artists around, earning him international awards, fame and praise. That global appeal is what led to a re- cent change in his stage name. Erwin explained that many interna- tional fans struggled with the last name "Kabakos." "It was so uncomfortable for peo- ple -- they don't want to screw his name up," said Erwin. "Steve Michaels is designed for people's com- fort." While he may be per- forming with a slightly different moniker now, Michaels will undoubt- edly deliver the same high-quality, memorable experience that local au- diences have enjoyed for the past several years. Er- win noted there will also be some new elements in the show, such as two new vocalists. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church, located at 44 Main St. N., Acton. Tickets cost $35 each and are available to purchase by calling 519-853-2360, 519-853-0318, 519-853-3564 or 519-856-9981. For more information on Michaels and his work visit www.stephenkaba- kos.com.
