Photo by Jon Borgstrom Broadcasting from Georgetown Talented Georgetown youth Vivian Hicks has won a $1,000 scholarship to go towards a dance program in New York this summer, but is hoping to raise additional funds so she can attend. Vivian, 10, who appeared at the Toronto Zoo's New Year's Eve Talent Showcase, loves to sing and dance. She dances six days a week at Strictly Dance, and attending the Broadway Bound NYC Summer Intensive program would be a dream come true for her. The program is open to dancers aged 8 and up in New York City in July, where choreographers will get the par- ticipants ready to perform on Broadway. They will have the chance to perform in three numbers at the New Am- sterdam Theatre on 42nd St. and take part in workshops with Disney and Broadway professionals. They will also see Aladdin, Newsies and take a Statue of Liberty cruise. "To perform in three Broadway shows…a dancer's dream of a lifetime," said Alley Hicks, Vivian's mom. "She has been awarded this four times so far, though we have never had the money to attend." Alley said the $1,000 Be Discovered scholarship, which she won at a recent Strictly Dance competition in Niagara Falls, would help with the costs but estimates another $3,000 would be needed. Anyone interested in making a donation is asked to contact Alley at 905-873-8182 or email derekalleyhicks@yahoo.ca Georgetown dancer hopes to be 'Broadway bound' Vivian Hicks performing one of her dance numbers.
