Center Stage School of the Arts of Georgetown competed at the Shock Dance Chal- lenge in St. Catharines earlier this month and the 125 members of the competitive team contributed to Center Stage taking first place overall with the highest standings of the weekend. Many other awards were won by the team including Best Choreography of the Competition, both individual and group awards for technique, discipline and cos- tumes as well as dance scholarships. Photo submitted Taking Center Stage Globe's Youth Company Production of The Wizard of Oz is gearing up. With a cast of 51 children ranging in age from 8 to 18, and a production team consisting of Rob Wood- cock, Elizabeth Bell and Dale Wood. This year's casting of the four main char- acters in everyone's favorite musical has been accomplished so well. Rachel Currie, from Brampton, plays the role of Dorothy. With her infectious smile and sweet personality she will win the hearts of everyone in the theatre. Thomas Morley, from Georgetown, takes the role of Tin Man. Thomas is a seasoned young actor as he has been in Globe's Pro- ductions of Annie, The Music Man, Aladdin Jr and All Shook Up, as well as the past two Globe Youth summer camp productions. Watching Thomas's facial expressions shows how well he has gotten into the character of Tin Man. Jake Zanth, a very tall twelve year old from Georgetown, takes the role of the Lion. Jake has been in Aladdin Jr. and in the last two Globe Youth summer camp productions. Jake has brought out the life of Lion through his gentle mannerisms and his portrayal of Lion's timidity. Mattieu Verdon, a ten year old from Georgetown, is starring as Scarecrow in his first musical theatre production ever. Mattieu is perfectly cast as Scarecrow as he lets his whole body get into the action; he is floppy and wiry just like Scarecrow, with lots of en- ergy and fantastic facial expressions. You will want to experience Globe's Youth Company production of The Wizard of Oz. The show runs May 9 and May 10, 8 p.m., and May 10 and May 11 at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at www. globeproductions.ca or directly from the Mil- ton Centre for the Arts at 1010 Main Street East, Milton, 905-878-6000.
