I am a nine-month-old pretty beagle cross, brown with white accents, small in stature-- told I am too plump at 45 lbs, I do LOVE those treats! On arrival, it was all too much for me, this change in circumstance made me present as a classic troubled teen, fear- ful, no self-confidence, self-control or self-es- teem, bossy yet at the same time unsure. I spent my early puppyhood in a home that did daycare and I certainly cannot go to a home with children.... my memories are not good in this regard. The Staff feel that I am just a young girl who is confused about my role in the world. They realize that tucked inside I have a won- derful temperament, but because of past experiences I feel that it is my job to correct YOU when things aren't quite going my way. They think that I lack confidence in my care- givers to make the proper decisions. Many different people deal with my daily care here but I know I can trust them and they will keep me safe so my behavior has improved. How- ever, I am still insecure with visitors and in social situations am very fearful of strangers which makes me not present at my best. When I relaxed with people I trust I love my belly rubbed, playing ball and hanging around in the kitchen or outdoors where playing or walkies are very much enjoyed. I love to collect little treasures on my walk which makes the walker smile, I bring back twigs, pieces of paper or even a small pebble...it comforts me to carry something as we walk along. I feel proud! In summary, I would do well in a home with a family with one or two dog experi- enced adults that have the skills to teach me boundaries and maintain a steady rou- tine. I would probably ben- efit form a multi-dog home, where I can learn from them and raise my confidence level. I must have a home with ABSOLUTELY NO CHILDREN because staff feel that being raised in a daycare situation may have con- tributed to my confidence issue. Neska reveals her true self to the people she trusts By JUDITH-ANNE KOLU Upper Credit Humane Society volunteer During the December ice storm an Acton homeowner found Popsicle in his window well stiff from cold and very hungry. After questioning the neighbours it was learned that her owners moved away in October and left her behind. The NHKR does not take in older cats but this was a desperate situ- ation and a foster volunteered to nurse her back to health. Popsicle shows no ill effects from her ordeal. She is a well-ad- justed happy cat estimated to be three years old. She is clean with her litter box, doesn't mind hav- ing her nails clipped and enjoys being groomed. She is content to bird watch from inside and shows no desire to venture outdoors. Popsicle has an unique face resembling a lioness with striking colours. She is a tall large cat often mistaken for a male because of her size. She plays enthusiastically with her toys and is very strong but gentle. To receive more petting, she reaches out to touch people or tries to hold the hand that is leaving. She can be persistent when seeking attention and her size makes it difficult to ignore her. Pop- sicle prefers to cuddle beside people rather than in a lap and if invited she sleeps on the bed snuggled up close. Her "lion look" causes some people to hesitate but she is friendly and enjoys attention from strangers. A friendly older dog was not a problem for her but Popsicle needs to be the only cat in her new home. She is adaptable to either a quiet or busy household.
