According to an account in the Georgetown Herald in Aug. 1926 con- cerning the reunion and John Leslie, the following is quoted: "The Leslie Clan originally came from the parish of Lesslyn (Scotland), but migrated to the county of Tyrone, Ireland, about 1650 where they engaged in farming. John Leslie, the subject of this sketch, served in the navy yards of George III as a ships rigger at Belfast, Ireland and Greenwich, England. He emigrated to America in 1819, where he stayed in New York State for two years. While there, the British Consul granted him 300 acres in Peel County, Ontario, Canada, and he arrived at his new Peel county property in 1821." John and Letty Ann had four chil- dren: Margaret, John, George and James. Letty Ann died but with the help of John's second wife, Catherine Sloan, a new and very successful life was carved out of the forest. They settled near Glen Williams (known as Williamsburg until 1852). There were (and still are) many descendants who live in the Halton Hills and Wellington county areas. After that first gathering, every two years a reunion was held, the last one being in 1993. After a lapse of 21 years, a new gathering is being planned for Aug. 10 and will be held in Rockwood. If you are one of the descendants and would like to join us for a social time and to learn about your Leslie history (a history that goes back nearly 1,000 years), you are invited to contact Rob- ert Leslie at lesliereunion2014@gmail. com. Full details of the gathering will be provided. A Pioneer Family-- 350 descendants of John Leslie and Letty Ann Boke who attended the first reunion, Blue Springs Park, Aug. 26, 1926.
