Recently the Optimist Club of Halton Hills hosted their annual Zone 6 Oratorical for students under 19 years old. Five contes- tants ranging in age from 10-19 from three local Optimist clubs (Caledon, Brampton and Halton Hills) competed for an opportunity to move on to the Central Ontario District Ora- torical finals for a chance to win one of three scholarship prizes. The task was to prepare and present a speech 4-5 minutes in length on the topic: "How My Passions Impact the World." Topics ranged from environmental conservation and sports to youth initiatives, math and helping oth- ers find their own pas- sions in life. Acton's Andrew Hilson and Georgetown's Clau- dia Hennigan were the two competitors from the Halton Hills Optimist Club. Hennigan, who won silver at the Zone 6 level, now moves on to the District competi- tion. Prizes at the District level include: 1st place: a $2,500 scholarship. 2nd place: $1,500 scholarship and 3rd place: $1,000 scholarship.
