There are many reasons why this is a great place to live, starting with the people, sense of community, beautiful countryside and much more. What's particu- larly gratifying is that we are now receiv- ing external recogni- tion, through an un- precedented string of awards. Last month I men- tioned the Town of Halton Hills received a Platinum Youth Friendly Designation. We were only one of five municipalities in Ontario to receive this award. In addition, Halton Hills Hydro won the Local Distribution Company Performance of Excellence Award. This is the most prestigious award a LDC can achieve. But we weren't done there. We received two Friends of the Credit Conservation Awards. One award was for our community sustain- ability strategy and the second for the sustainable features of low im- pact development of the Meadows in the Glen subdivision. And last - but certainly not least - we were one of only four Ontario municipalities to receive a Bicycle Friendly Community Award. We received a bronze award for our ef- forts in making Halton Hills a bi- cycle friendly place to live. That recognition is in no small part due to the outstanding efforts of Regional Councillor Jane Fogal, who is an avid cyclist. Her vision was recently recognized by the provincial Share the Road Cycling Coalition who presented Coun- cillor Fogal with a well-deserved leadership award. **** The Community Cy- cling Challenge is back. This year you can help raise $64,000 for the Georgetown Hospi- tal Foundation. This doesn't cost you a dime, just go to www.bike- challenge.ca and start peddling. Our goal this year is to ride 300,000 km. **** There is a little girl in our community who has Tuberous Sclerosis Complex. This serious genetic disease causes tumors to form on vital organs. We wish five year old Kiera all the best. On May 15, students at Silver Creek School will be wearing blue to show their support. To learn more about TSC Canada please visit www.tscanada.ca. **** Congratulations to the George- town Market Place on their Phase Two opening. They did a remark- able job. Special recognition to Warehouse One for their generous donation of $7,500 to the Town for new trees to be planted as a result of the ice storm. **** Keeping it real! Built in 1855, the stone piers served until they were encased in modern stone in 2011 to allow for widening of the iron bed to allow for two tracks to cross the river.
