How would you fund and improve transportation in Halton Hills? The Ontario NDP will deliver two-way, all-day GO train service to Acton and Georgetown. A NDP gov- ernment will allocate funds from our $29 billion 10 year transit fund - and we will begin flowing funds immediately for two-way, all-day GO service to Acton, Georgetown, Guelph and Kitchener-Waterloo. This includes allocating 7.5 cents per litre of the existing gas tax to public transit and transportation along with the other dedicated revenue measures de- scribed in the proposed Budget 2014. We will also introduce a modest increase in the general corporate income tax rate. 1. What is the most important issue facing Halton Hills? Finding good paying jobs, especially for our youth, is the most important issue facing Halton Hills. The cost of living is rising and good jobs are disappear- ing, making it harder for young people to finance their education and move out. This is increasing the strain on entire families and dimming the prospects for a prosperous tomorrow. The Ontario NDP is the only party with a plan to provide tuition fee relief and help ensure higher edu- cation is more affordable and accessible for Ontario students. Andrea Horwath and an NDP government will freeze student tuition fees at 2014 levels and make provincial student loans interest-free. The NDP has a plan that will bring Ontario back on track. The NDP will support small business by reduc- ing their tax from 4.5-3% to help business create jobs and expand. The NDP will also take the HST off of home heating to make life more affordable. Occupation: Environmental consultant Previous experience: Dave has more than 30 years of experience in the environmental sciences working on a range of projects, relating to the environmental impact of utility operations, par- ticularly effects on the aquatic environment. He worked with Ontario Hydro Research Division, its successor Kinetics and now is an independent DAVE RODGERS GREEN PARTY About Dave 1. How would you fund and improve transportation in Halton Hills? Your Green MPPs will demand that Ontario estab- lish a dedicated transit fund to build new transit and support the operation of existing transit. And we will insist on an honest plan to pay for it. The GPO will work with other parties to implement dedicated rev- enue tools that are fair and progressive, such as con- gestion charges, gas taxes and parking fees, to raise $3 billion a year to build and operate transit in com- munities across Ontario. 1. What is the most important issue facing Halton Hills? The central issue facing Halton Hills is to provide infrastructure and other services to the riding in the face of rapid growth. This affects not only transpor- tation and transit, but also educational, fire protec- tion, police and social services. Insufficient or delayed support from the provincial government is essential- ly downloads these responsibilities on already over- stressed municipal governments. As your Green Party MPP, I would work with all levels of government and political parties to alleviate these chronic problems. consultant. He further channelled his knowledge and in- terest in fish and the aquatic environment by working as a volunteer with the Friends of Mill Creek and Trout Unlim- ited. He is certified as laboratory assessor by the Standards Council of Canada and the Canadian Association for Labo- ratory Accreditation and works as a volunteer with both bodies. In addition, Dave has coached of local soccer and basket- ball teams and judged middle and high school science fairs.
