In 2011, St. Domenic Catholic Elementary School in Oakville wanted to commemorate what's known as the Veterans' Highway (Regional Road 25 or Hwy. 25), which begins in Bronte at Dono- van Bailey Park. Oakville trustee Alice Ann LeMay suggested a matching park at the top end of Hwy. 25 would be appropriate, and with the support of Halton Hills trustee Mark Rowe, St. Jo- seph principal Sonia Bien, the Roy- al Canadian Legion Branch #197 the Town of Halton Hills and the Acton BIA, the parkette located on the northeast corner of Mill St. and Main St. was chosen as the site for the Veterans' Garden and will be maintained by St. Joseph students. The mayor donated the 50 poppy plants. Photo by Eamonn Maher Popping in the poppies
