Halton Regional Police are inves- tigating a collision between a trans- port truck and a car in the Town of Halton Hills that occurred late Tues- day afternoon. Shortly before 5 p.m. emergency services were called to Steeles Ave., west of Sixth Line, in response to a head-on collision between a 2010 Honda Civic and a transport truck. The driver of the Honda, a 59-year-old Kitchener woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. The transport driver, a 33-year-old Brampton man, was shaken but un- hurt. The truck, loaded with fertilizer, drove into a ditch after the impact with the car and partially knocked down a hydro pole. Hydro crews were dispatched to the scene to en- sure no live wires posed a danger to emergency responders. Steeles Ave. was closed until about 11 p.m. Members of the Collision Re- construction Unit and Commercial Vehicle Unit have taken over the the investigation. Several witnesses stopped and provided statements to police. Any other witnesses are urged to contact the CRU at 905- 825-4747 ext. 5065. Police reconstructionists are in- vestigating the cause of this colli- sion but will not be releasing their preliminary findings or the identity of the victim at this time. Their fo- cus will be on determining the lat- eral positions of both vehicles on the roadway at the time of impact. It is too early in the investigation to comment on any potential charges. The weather at the time was clear and sunny and the roads were dry with no obstructions. This is the sixth traffic fatality to be investigated by Halton Police in 2014 and the first in Halton Hills.
