•Th e IF P• H al to n H ill s • Th ur sd ay , J un e 12 , 2 01 4 10 NOTICE OF CONSTRUCTION Highway 401 Bridge Rehabilitation at First Line, Steeles Avenue and James Snow Parkway and Highway 401 Repaving from Regional Road 25 to Trafalgar Road THE PROJECT The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has completed the design and Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) for the rehabilitation of bridge underpasses at First Line, Steeles Avenue and James Snow Parkway and the repaving of Highway 401 from Regional Road 25 to Trafalgar Road in the Region of Halton. Construction is expected to commence in Summer 2014 and be completed in 2015. The bridge sites and limits of Highway 401 repaving are shown on the key map below. The work at each bridge site will consist of removal and reinstatement of the existing asphalt and waterproofing system, replacement of areas of deteriorated concrete on the bridge deck and some concrete patching on the bridge soffits, sidewalks, barrier walls and substructures. Repaving of Highway 401 from Regional Road 25 to Trafalgar Road will consist of milling of the existing pavement and application of a new pavement surface. The work will also include improvements to the westbound off-ramp at James Snow Parkway. In order to expedite construction activities and reduce traffic impacts on area roads, the project will involve traffic restrictions over the bridges for most of the project duration and nighttime lane reductions on Highway 401. Advance notification of the traffic restrictions on each bridge will be provided using construction signage that will be installed prior to any restrictions being implemented. Traffic restrictions over the bridges include: • Traffic on the First Line bridge will be reduced to a single lane operation with north-south movements alternated and controlled by temporary traffic signals; • Traffic on the Steeles Avenue bridge will be limited to a single lane in each direction (east-west); and • Traffic on the James Snow Parkway bridge will be reduced to three lanes (two lanes southbound and a single lane northbound). Pedestrian and cyclist access over each bridge will be maintained throughout construction. THE PROCESS The design and Class EA for this project was completed as a Group 'C' project under the Class Environmental Assessment for Provincial Transportation Facilities (2000). Several dignitaries, in- cluding RCMP Supt. Rick Penney, and a number of veterans who've fought for Canada abroad ranging over seven decades, attended the event held at the Gellert Community Centre. The Community Covenant encompasses a commitment from the Town to set out a number of guiding princi- ples that provide a suppport network for veterans within the community. "It's important to rec- ognize and celebrate the contributions of our local veterans," said Mayor Rick Bonnette. "The Town is committed to ensure that our vets re- main supported in our com- munity and it's so important that it starts in the schools. We hope to motivate and in- spire other communities to set the stage for community recognition, engagement and to support their local veterans."
