Over 50 family members renewed old friendships and built new ones. Alfred Hyde was born in England on March 10, 1873. He served in the British Imperial Army for 13 years, being stationed in South Africa during the Boer War, India during the mutinies, as well as in Egypt and Arabia. Rhoda Symons, born in England on March 24, 1886, married Alfred in 1904, the year they emigrated to Canada. In 1915 they settled in Georgetown on the farm on Main St. North between Ewing and Ontario Sts. In addition to operating the farm, Alfred's businesses included rural mail delivery and dynamiting. He purchased the old inn at the corner of Main and Guelph streets where he moved the building back from the highway to install gas pumps and operate a garage. Alfred and Rhoda raised five children in Georgetown. William John (Bill) Hyde born November 19, 1905 was for many years chief of the then all-volunteer Georgetown Fire Department. His sons Bud and Bob fol- lowed him as volunteers, and Bob was hired as a deputy fire chief when the Town of Hal- ton Hills moved to a paid department. The hostesses were Bonnie Brunton (Saunders), Carol Hergaarden (Fournier), Pat Mason (Hyde), and Rhona Scholz (Gadd). It was a mixture of friend- ships made while attending Wrig- glesworth Public School, Chapel St. Public School and Georgetown District High School. "We were close school friends at one time or another," says Rhona. "It was 54 plus years of friendship…this reunion was like a lost and found. Some girls we had not seen since 1962. I think we all came away with great feelings," she said. Photo submitted A reunion of friends About 50 family members reunited in Glen Williams in May. The Hyde family reunites in Glen Williams
