Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott has been appointed On- tario PC Critic to the Minister of Economic Development, Employ- ment and Infrastructure. "I want to thank our Leader Jim Wilson for the confidence he's placed in me. I'm looking forward to putting my experience to work in this important new responsibil- ity," Arnott said. Ontario's unemployment rate re- mains high at 7.3 per cent, accord- ing to Statistics Canada. The province's jobless number has been higher than Canada's national average unemploy- ment rate for over seven years. "Clearly, the Lib- eral government's jobs strategy, if it has one, isn't work- ing," Arnott said. As Critic, it will be Arnott's role to hold the Minister of Economic Develop- ment, Employment and Infrastructure accountable in the Ontario Legislature, and at the same time propose construc- tive suggestions to strengthen Ontario's economy. He will also mon- itor the govern- ment's infrastructure spending. "The government is planning to spend over $12 billion this year on infrastructure projects. The Throne Speech boasted of a ten year, $130 billion infrastruc- ture plan," Arnott went on. "I want to ensure that there is honesty and fairness in the pro- cess, that the Ontario taxpayer is getting good value for money, that rural Ontario receives its fair share of available funding, and that sen- sible priorities are set."
