Georgetown's favourite Veterinary Services 3 Years in a Row Check the water quality before hitting the beaches Halton Region is reminding beachgoers to check the latest beach water quality results at www. halton.ca/beaches or 311 before diving in this holiday weekend. The water quality at Halton's beaches is monitored by the Halton Region Health Department to de- termine if it is acceptable for swim- ming and for other recreational wa- ter activities. Swimming in beach water with a high bacteria count could result in eye, ear, nose or throat infections, or gastrointestinal or stomach ill- nesses. "Swimming and playing on a beach is a great way to spend a summer day and we are fortunate to have beautiful beaches right here in Halton," said Gary Carr, Regional Chair. "Before you go to the beach, re- member to take a quick look at www.halton.ca/beaches or dial 311 to check the beach water quality." Carr said residents and visitors to Halton's beaches can help keep the water clean by: •Not feeding animals or birds •Observing local 'stoop and scoop' bylaws and always picking up their pet's waste •Practising pollution-free boat- ing by disposing of human waste properly •Keeping private sewage disposal systems in good working order.
